Snow suits Moscow. The city looks (lovely) in winter. It is decorated by snow as cakes are with icing. Snow falls on the (dark) layer beneath and the whole city looks at its (good). Snow dresses the city up and gives it a sparkling touch, a (new) look. Snow makes Moscow (much) Russian and (warm). The snow that falls on parks and buildings makes it look (much) like a city from a fairy-tale book.

Muscovites love the snow. When it comes, they give it a warm welcome, perhaps a (warm) one than to summer or much the same as they give to green-handed spring.

The snow doesn’t usually come before the latter part of November and only (late) does it come to stay. Whatever the snow situation, still January comes in through the celebration of New Year. Fir trees with trimmings and coloured lights stand in the squares, and there are ice carnivals in the parks.

IV. Describe your native city in different seasons.

V. Imagine that a foreign friend wants to visit your city in January (July). What advice can you give? Advise on clothes, activities and places of interest that are worth visiting in this time of the year.

Samara is a cultural centre of the region. If you are interested in the history and nature of the region, you can visit the Local History museum. Arts Museum possesses paintings and sculpture of Russian and Western artists, as well as some applied art. One of the most popular tourists’ attractions in Samara is Stalin’s Bunker. It was secretly built during World War II; now it is a museum. Theatre-lovers can visit our Opera and Ballet House and Drama Theatre. For those who like classical music Samara has a Philharmonic Society Concert Hall. Among other places that are worth visiting are beautiful squares. Kuybyshev Square, which is a place for all sorts of public events, is the largest city square in Europe. The enormous building of the Opera and Ballet House is situated here. There is a monument to Valerian Kuybyshev in front of it. Samarskaya Square with its beautiful trees and fountains and the Square of Glory with the Eternal Flame, the Monument of Glory, a magnificent cathedral are also very popular with both сitizens and tourists. The favourite place for walks is the embankment, from which you can have a great view on the Volga and the Zhiguli Mountains.

Night life in Samara is quite joyful. The main dance clubs are: Beerja, KINUP (Stock Exchange), Zvezda (Star), Aura (The Aura), Postel (The Bed), Long Bar. There are many restaurants and bars in Samara. The prices for clubbing are the same or even higher than in Europe or America, though not so high as in Moscow.
