Purpose of the work:

Silage Making Machinery

Some farmers use a trailed or medium-sized, self-propelled, precision-chop forage harvester to cut green crops for silage. Others employ a contractor with a large self-propelled machine to do this work. Other machines used for silage making include double-chop forage harvesters, mower conditioners, forage wagons and a buck-rake at the silage clamp.

The crop is either direct harvested or cut with a mower conditioner and left to wilt before col­lecting it with a forage harvester. The harvested material is chopped into short lengths and blown into a trailer pulled alongside or towed behind the harvester. Maize grown for silage is harvested with a maize header, chopped and conveyed to a trailer.
